Marble Mountains – Caves, Pagodas and the Stone-Carving Village

On the Da Nang – Hoi An route, about 8 km from Da Nang city centre, the Marble Mountains make an easy morning trip from Sea Garden Hotel & Apartment in Son Tra. This cluster of marble and limestone peaks is one of the city’s most rewarding outings: caves and pagodas, sweeping viewpoints, and, at its foot, the stone-carving village of Non Nuoc.

Highlights

  • Thuy Son Peak – The largest and most beautiful of the peaks, also called Non Nuoc Pagoda, with nine caves, five temples and towers, and the Vong Giang Dai and Vong Hai Dai viewpoints. Climb more than 150 stone steps or take the glass elevator.
  • Huyen Khong Cave – A vast, light-filled cavern whose altar holds a statue of Thien-Y-A-Na, the Jade Goddess.
  • Am Phu Cave – South of Thuy Son, a dark cavern known as the “Underworld Cave”, growing darker the deeper you venture.
  • Tam Thai Pagoda – Built in 1630 and commissioned by Emperor Minh Mang in April 1826 to receive nine statues and three large bells, set across three mountain levels.
  • Linh Ung Pagoda – Facing the sea from Thuy Son Peak, originally built during Emperor Minh Mang’s reign in 1825.
  • Quan The Am Pagoda and the Buddhist Cultural Museum – On Kim Son, the first Buddhist museum in Vietnam, with more than 200 artifacts in a 700-square-metre courtyard.
  • Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village – Stretching along the foot of the mountains, a carving tradition dating back at least to the 17th century and recognised as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014.

Good to know: Thuy Son Peak visit costs 40,000 VND for adults and is free for children under 6; the elevator is 15,000 VND one way. Am Phu Cave costs 20,000 VND for adults and 7,000 VND for students. The portal suggests departing Da Nang city centre around 7:30–8:00 AM and allowing about 3–4 hours, then continuing to Hoi An, about 30 minutes away by car along the Truong Sa – Lac Long Quan coastal road. Back at Sea Garden, unwind in our 4th-floor pool after a morning among the caves and pagodas.
